67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, 2016 in Washington, DC
What is Nelson Mandela Day?
Nelson Mandela Day is a call to action for individuals everywhere to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place, one small step at a time, just as the late Mr. Mandela did for more than 67 years. Stitch by stitch, we will be keeping thousands of people around the world warm in the name of Nelson Mandela.
Our groups's contribution to this goal was to create 288 squares for "67 blankets for Nelson Mandela Day."
On May 25, 2016, I went to Baltimore, Maryland to drop off the squares. There I met Veronica Buzby, the D.C. Ambassador for this wonderful project, at Maryland airport. They will put the squares together to make blankets and give them to Central Union Mission whose programs serve homeless men, underprivileged women, children, seniors, families, and veterans in Washington, DC area and to the Homeless Children’s Playtime Project that is also in DC.

We had the pleasure of seeing The Peace Train perform at The Nelson Mandela Day event. Peace Train travels around the country performing, to help promote a peaceful transition to a fully-inclusive democracy.

Celebrating our 5th anniversary!
On Sunday, July 26, 2015 we celebrated the fifth anniversary. Our friends and fellow prayer shawl group from Austin, Texas joined in the celebrations that included our prayer ministry, a wonderful luncheon and dinner at Sylvia's in Harlem. The official name of our Texas friends' group is WUMC Warrior Women Prayer Shawl Ministry of Wesley United Methodist Church.
We received this lovely thank you note from Juanita Stephens and our Texas friends:
I'm sure y'all had a great time. We are still recovering from our trip. Stayed up too late every night reliving the day that we had had. We can't stop talking about it. Still laughing and talking about our great memories.
Thank you again for rolling out the red carpet for us. No one in our group was upset that we didn't do more sightseeing because we enjoyed just having an open itinerary. The Door restaurant was the bomb. Tell your group thank you for us.

We thank God for bringing us together! All we did was goggle prayer shawl ministry and the rest is history! We give God all the Praises! We are friends for life! They gave us a beautiful afghan.
